VM Carpet was founded by Arto and Aila Viita-aho in 1973 along the shore of Lake Lappajärvi, in the village of Karvala in Finland. Right from the start, VM Carpet made, for example, rag rugs from cotton and later started also using wool, paper yarn and sisal. From day one, VM Carpet focused on excellent design and today, it has collaborated with leading designers for more than 30 years.VMCarpet’srugs and carpets are manufactured from four-metre-wide rolls with non-slip EVAPOLYTEX® backing for safety. As well as customised sizes, the company’s automatic cutting machine makes it possible to create tailor-made shapes according to the customer’s wishes. VM-Carpet operates in ways that are as environmentally friendly as possible. Any waste pieces left over from production are used in the company’s own operations as far as possible and if there is anything left, it is used as waste-to-energy fuel.The electricity used by the company is produced with renewable resources. Almost all VM Carpet’s products have the Key Flag Symbol, which signifies ‘made in Finland’.
